I have the exact same problem. I have thick hair and it's really long and will not stay curled if I used a curling iron. So I do the old fashion way! RAG CURLS! It works great the the curls look really good!!! After I take them out I use A LOT of hair spray. Trust me rag curls is the way to go. Not to mention it doesn't damage the hair! HERE'S A SITE:
