the remington wet 2 style straightener works great on me and my hair is pretty thick. The level of heat is adjustable from 1-30 and it is resonably priced. Hope u like!

i have very thick and long hair and i use a solia iron. it straightens, curls, and u can flip the ends of your hair with it. if you do a quick job it helps control the "puffiness" of my hair but if you go slowly, layer-by-layer, it works like a charm! i also reccomend chi irons-- they really work, although they are more expensive.

I use the MAXIglide. It works sooooo well. In fact, it's different from any old flat iron. It uses straightening pins on the plate to detangle the hair while ironing, thus making hair straighter! It also comes with a backup flat plate. In addition it uses Advanced Steamburst Technology, which gives you the option of using steam to go through a tough part of the hair. You can even use the ridges on the outer part of the straightener to make flips! Here, check out this link. You won't be disappointed. http://www.maxiusbeauty.com/

My hair straightener is a ceramic Straight2theMax, it works very well and I usually heat it up to the highest level without damaging my hair. It works great because I have very thick natural hair that won't do a thing if I use chemicals or shampoos. So check out a local salon supply store, or amazon.com has them I bet. Good luck
