Yes you can perm thick hair.

Make sure they give you a spiral perm and alternate the rod size. Remember that with long hair the weight will pull down on the curls so you will want some smaller size rods mixed in. They will probably have to use two kits. Be prepared to spend about 3 hours total at the salon, between washing your hair, wrapping your hair around the rods, putting the chemicals in your hair, waiting for the permanent to set, rinsing and putting another solution into your hair, waiting again, then having the rods taken out and your hair rinsed. Much easier to take care of. Good Luck.

I would suggest you go to a top salon, and get their advice. I too, have thick hair. One time I made the mistake of having a perm, and I looked like a fuzz ball. With a good layered haircut, your hair should be your crowning glory. Trust your hairdresser.
